The Samsung Vent Blockage Test checks your exhaust vent condition. To run it: empty the drum, press and hold Adjust Time Up + Dry Level until “InS” appears, then press Start. Results: End/0 = pass, Clg = clogged, C80 = 80% blocked, C90 = 90%+ blocked. These are test results, not automatic error codes.
| Error Code | Clg / C80 / C90 |
|---|---|
| Meaning | Vent blockage test results (NOT automatic errors) |
| Difficulty | Easy |
| Time to Fix | 10 min test, 30-60 min cleaning |
| Tools Needed | Vent cleaning brush kit, Vacuum |
| DIY Fixable | Yes |

Samsung dryers include a built-in Vent Blockage Test that measures exhaust airflow. Unlike error codes that appear automatically, these codes only display when you manually run the test. Use this test to proactively check vent condition or diagnose slow drying.
Understanding the Codes
These are TEST RESULTS, not automatic error codes. They only appear after you run the Vent Blockage Test.
| Code | Meaning | Action Required |
|---|---|---|
| End or 0 | Vent is NOT clogged | No action—vent is clear |
| Clg or Cg | Vent is clogged | Clean vent system immediately |
| C80 or C8 | ~80% blocked | Clean vent system—significant restriction |
| C90 or C9 | 90%+ blocked | Clean immediately—fire hazard |
| dc | Door is open | Close door to run test |
| C1 or CL1 | Laundry in drum | Remove all items and retry |
| Ct | Temperature extreme | Dryer too hot or cold (below 32°F or above 104°F) |
How to Run the Vent Blockage Test
Prerequisites
- Empty the drum completely—any laundry triggers C1/CL1
- Dryer must be cool—if warm, run Air Fluff cycle first
- Close the door
Method 1: Standard Procedure
- Power on the dryer
- Press and hold Adjust Time Up + Dry Level simultaneously
- Display shows “InS” when entering test mode
- Press Start
- Display shows “0000” during diagnosis
- Wait approximately 2 minutes
- Do NOT open door during test
- Result code displays when complete
Method 2: Alternative (Some Models)
- Press and hold Temp + Time for 3 seconds
- Display shows “Vent”
- Test runs automatically
- Result displays when complete
Run the Vent Blockage Test every few months as preventive maintenance, especially if you notice longer drying times. Catching blockages early prevents fire hazards and reduces energy costs.
What to Do for Each Result
End/0 — Pass
Your vent is clear. No action needed.
If clothes still take long to dry with a passing test, check:
- Lint filter cleanliness
- Load size (overloading reduces efficiency)
- Moisture sensor bars (clean with rubbing alcohol)
Clg/C80/C90 — Blockage Detected
Clean your entire vent system:
Step 1: Clean lint filter
- Remove and clean lint filter
- Wash with warm soapy water if coated with dryer sheet residue
- Let dry completely before reinstalling
Step 2: Clean exhaust hose
- Pull dryer away from wall
- Disconnect flexible vent hose from dryer
- Vacuum inside dryer exhaust port
- Vacuum inside vent hose
Step 3: Clean duct to exterior
- Use a dryer vent brush kit (long flexible brush)
- Push brush through entire duct run
- Vacuum debris that comes out
Step 4: Check exterior vent
- Go outside to the vent hood
- Remove any visible lint or debris
- Ensure flap opens freely
- Check for bird nests or obstructions
Step 5: Reconnect and retest
- Reattach vent hose—ensure no kinks
- Push dryer back (leave some clearance)
- Run Vent Blockage Test again
- Should now show End/0
Fire Safety Statistics
Why vent maintenance matters:
| Statistic | Data |
|---|---|
| Home fires involving dryers annually | 15,970 |
| Percentage that are dryers (vs washers) | 92% |
| Caused by lint buildup | 34% |
| Deaths per year | ~13 |
| Injuries per year | ~440 |
| Property damage per year | $238 million |
| Electric vs gas fire risk | Electric 2.5x more likely |
Peak fire months: January and winter months (more dryer use, less outdoor drying).
Recommended Maintenance Schedule
| Task | Frequency |
|---|---|
| Clean lint filter | After every load |
| Run Vent Blockage Test | Every 3 months |
| Professional vent cleaning | At least once per year |
| Inspect exterior vent hood | Every 3 months |
More frequent cleaning needed if:
- High usage household
- Longer vent runs
- Multiple 90° bends in ductwork
- Older equipment
- Pets (pet hair accumulates faster)
Warning Signs of Vent Problems
Even without running the test, watch for these signs:
- Clothes take longer than one cycle to dry
- Clothes feel hotter than usual after drying
- Dryer exterior is very hot to touch
- Burning smell during operation
- Visible lint around dryer opening
- Exterior vent flap doesn’t open when dryer runs
- Humidity in laundry room during drying
